Review: Fractured Light by Rachel McClellan

Synopsis:  Llona Reese is used to living on the run. After the Vykens killed her parents, she knew they would eventually come for her too. But she never felt ready to face them---until now. Defying the Auran Council and everything she's been taught, Llona must learn to use her power over light as a weapon if she wants to survive.

Review:  The first thing that drew me to this tour is the cover.  It's so beautiful.  Ethereal.  Flowy and dreamy.

The writing is clean and easy to read.  The pacing is good for the most part.  There is a little bit of a slow start, but once you get past the first couple chapters, the story really gets moving.  Rachel McClellan does an excellent job at world building.  Her descriptions make me feel like I’m right there with Llona.

I like Llona.  She takes challenges head on.  She is spunky, and even though she is scared acts as though she is fearless.  Llona was in a bad place due to all the tragedy in her life, including the deaths of both of her parents.  She pulled herself out of her misery and decided to be proactive.  I really like that in a character.  Llona developed over the course of the story in a way that didn’t feel too rushed.

I didn’t like Christian all that much at first.  I can’t really say what it was, maybe he just wasn’t developed enough, maybe it was just that it was too fast or a little cliché.  But after the first few chapters he was involved in, I began to like him as a character and partner for Llona.

I’m very interested to see where the next book takes Llona and Christian.  I want to see how much Llona progresses with her powers and in her relationship with Christian.
