Review: Girl of Nightmares by Kendare Blake

Synopsis:  It's been months since the ghost of Anna Korlov opened a door to Hell in her basement and disappeared into it, but ghost-hunter Cas Lowood can't move on.

His friends remind him that Anna sacrificed herself so that Cas could live—not walk around half dead. He knows they're right, but in Cas's eyes, no living girl he meets can compare to the dead girl he fell in love with.

Now he's seeing Anna everywhere: sometimes when he's asleep and sometimes in waking nightmares. But something is very wrong...these aren't just daydreams. Anna seems tortured, torn apart in new and ever more gruesome ways every time she appears.

Cas doesn't know what happened to Anna when she disappeared into Hell, but he knows she doesn't deserve whatever is happening to her now. Anna saved Cas more than once, and it's time for him to return the favor.
Girl of Nightmares (Anna, #2)Girl of Nightmares by Kendare Blake
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Anna sacrificed herself in Anna Dressed in Blood in order to save Cas's life. It's been months, and no Cas is seeing Anna everywhere. He is literally haunted by her. Anna is trapped in a bad place with the Obeahman in hell, and Cas can't let her stay there. With the help of his best friend Thomas and the reluctant help of Carmel and Gideon, Cas is determined to rescue Anna, as she did for him, even if it means going through a doorway to hell.

Girl of Nightmares does not disappoint. It's just as creepy as Anna dressed in blood, if not more so with the addition of a secret society. Everyone keeps telling Cas to leave it alone - forget about Anna and move on with his life. It's just not in Cas's character to let him do so. He loves Anna, and doesn't think it's fair for him to suffer when she gave up everything to save him and his friends.

In this book, Carmel is having some issues in coping. Dead things don't make up her ideal image of what life and high school is about. Is her love of Thomas and friendship with Cas enough to keep her there right through the bloody end?

Thomas is by Cas's side more than ever, displaying courage and loyalty beyond what anyone has the right to ask for. He and Cas head of to London to meet up with Gideon to try to find out how to save Anna. While in London they meet, Jes. Jes is being trained to replace Cas. For some reason Cas and Thomas both trust her. Should they?

Is Cas able to enter hell? If he goes, will he be able to bring Anna back and destroy the Obeahman? Does the secret society want to help or harm Cas? Read Girl of Nightmares to find out for yourself.

I loved the book! I was lucky because I just finished Anna Dressed in Blood when the second book came out, so I didn't have to wait long!
