My Review:

Wow, I have been reading some great books lately, and When We Collide is now at the top of that list.  I rated it five stars because it was just such an overall good book.  The writing is flawless.  I didn’t notice any mistakes.  The story transitions smoothly from William’s dreams, present day William, present day Maggie, and William six years ago and Maggie six years ago.  The author manages to make these jumps in a manner that doesn’t confuse, and makes you want to keep reading.  I read the book in two sittings – but only because I had to work.  I really didn’t want to stop.  I was already hooked when I started reading about William in present day.  The author hints about things that happened in the past, and it made me crazy not knowing.  I was so excited the first time it jumped back six years and tormented because I only got a small piece of the puzzle.  The author does an amazing job of building the story and making you want to read more.

I really liked William.  Even in the beginning, when he came across as a jerk, I could feel there was something more to him.  As his story unfolds and you see the pains he has experienced, my heart just broke for him.  I enjoyed reading about the relationship that he had with his family growing up.  When it comes down to it, William does the right thing.  You have to respect him for that.  I love how he stands up for Maggie.  I really feel for Maggie as well.  She has such a hard life.  I’m double majoring in Criminal Justice and Social Work and I’ve taken many classes on domestic violence.  I understand how hard it is for people to escape the bad situations.  The author did an excellent job telling this story – with almost everything that happened matching up with the things I learned about in my domestic violence classes.

I also really liked Blake, William’s brother.  He is a good son, a good brother, a good father, and a good husband.  He has a lot of love for the people in his life, and it really shines through.  I also like that he was able to admit when he is wrong – such as staying out of Maggie’s situation.  Too many people turn a blind eye to domestic violence, feeling that it’s not their business and they should not get involved.  I like that the author had information at the end of the book about who to contact if you need help.

I recommend this book to both adult readers and new adult readers.  In the flashbacks, the characters are 18 and 21.  In current time William is 27.  I promise, this one won’t disappoint you.

Author Bio
A.L. Jackson first found a love for writing during her days as a young mother and college student.  She filled the journals she carried with short stories and poems used as an emotional outlet for the difficulties and joys she found in day-to-day life.

Years later, she shared a short story she’d been working on with her two closest friends and, with their encouragement, this story became her first full length novel. A.L. now spends her days writing in Southern Arizona where she lives with her husband and three beautiful children. Her favorite pastime is spending time with the ones she loves.
