Interview with K.A. Tucker, author of Allegiance

Waiting on Sunday to Drown welcomes K.A. Tucker, and thanks her for her interview.  Please see my next post for a review of her new book Allegiance.

What was your favorite character to write and why?
I think that'd have to be Sofie. Her emotions are all over the board. She's quick to react and form an opinion, suspicious by nature, riddled with guilt while trying to keep Evangeline safe, humbled by the Fates while still charged with her anger... There's never a dull moment with her.

What is your writing process?  Does you have any rituals to get into the mood, ie, listening to music, a snack you eat while writing?
I've trained myself to write every night. It has become a ritual. I set up in my bedroom with a tea and sometimes a treat. There is no 'getting in the mood' LOL. If I don't write in the evening, I don't write period. Between a full time job and family, I don't have any other time. I joke that I put a gun to my muse's head. In a way, it's true.  Writing in the evening is therapeutic for me. Much like some people go running to relax and beat stress, I write.

Who are your favorite authors?
George R.R. Martin is my all-time favorite author but I have a lot of favorites. M. Leighton is one, even more so after we gagged some tequila shots down together this past Labor Day weekend. She's a cool chick). Lauren Oliver is another, for her Delirium series -fantastic! I love all of Abbi Glines' books - they're quirky and fast-paced.

What was the most difficult part about writing the book?
I'd say the hardest part for me is knowing where to start the story.
It might sound like an easy thing to decide but where you start that story will either hook or lose your readers.

Favorite food?(s) Creme Brulee, butter tarts, anything baked.

Why did you become a writer? There was no intentional "I think I'll become a writer" moment. I just had an idea, decided to do something about it, and discovered a passion. Writing novels is something I hope to do for the rest of my life.

Who is your ideal cast if your book was made into a movie?
Ugh! It's so hard to answer that. I tried once... it took me days. LOL. I'd be more interested to hear who the readers' ideal cast would be? :D

Thanks so much for hosting me today!

About the Author!

Born in small-town Ontario, Kathleen published her first book at the age of six with the help of her elementary school librarian and a box of crayons. She is a voracious reader and the farthest thing from a genre-snob, loving everything from High Fantasy to Chick Lit. Kathleen currently resides in a quaint small town outside of Toronto with her husband, two beautiful girls, and an exhausting brood of four-legged creatures.
